What is Social Inclusion Week?

Social Inclusion Week (SIW) Australia is about encouraging communities to reconnect and be inclusive of all cultures, age groups, nationalities and abilities.

Founded by Dr Jonathon Welch AM, and run by Play It Forward, SIW was launched in 2009 as a way for communities to share knowledge and experience, and raise awareness.

It is an annual initiative that takes place the last week in November.

This year, Social Inclusion Week Australia runs from
Saturday 24 Nov – Sunday 02 Dec

Our theme is:

We encourage people of all ages to join together and engage with the objectives of the week by hosting or attending a social inclusion focused event.

Key communities who can often feel excluded are young people 12–25 years of age, jobless families with children, people with a disability or mental illness, those who are homeless, the elderly and Indigenous Australians.

Celebrate Social Inclusion Week by hosting your own event!
